About the Boycott

The University and College Union (UCU) passed a motion on the 28th of May that would allow for the reintroduction of a boycott of Israeli academia.

At its annual congress in Manchester, the motion was passed overwhlemingly by a show of hands. No speeches were allowed against the main motion, though there were several speeches in favour.

The motion follows last year's attempts by the union to implement a similar boycott motion, which was withdrawn by the Union following undisclosed legal advice.

This year's motion was debated despite Stop the Boycott's legal advice that any boycott of Israeli academia would be in breach of the union's own anti-discrimination policies and British anti-discrimination laws.
