University Vice Chancellors Visit Israel
- A delegation of Vice Chancellors of British Universities visited Israel over the last week.
- The visit was organized by the British Embassy, the British Council in Israel and the International Advisory Board for Academic Freedom (IAB)
- The delegation met with Minster of Education Yuli Tamir and the new Israeli Ambassador to the Court of St. James, Ron Prossor, at a dinner hosted by the British Ambassador to Israel, Tom Philips
- They also to a number of Israeli and Palestinian universities to investigate possible joint research projects
- The group was accompanied by Prof David Newman of Ben Gurion University.
- Professor Rick Trainor, President of Universities UK, said
"I am struck by the tremendous academic strength of Israeli universities, which is something we want to interact with."
- The Vice Chancellors' visit was covered by the Independent in an article "Middle Eastern links: In place of a boycott..."
- It also inspired a leader in the same paper, "It's good to talk"
Architects promote dialogue not boycott
- A group of British Architects and other construction professionals announced the launch of Constructive Dialogue
- The group will act as a counter to imbalanced and one-sided attitudes to the situation in the Middle East, and provide a forum for ideas, debate and discussion
- Constructive Dialogue is planning a series of events over the coming year
